On 17th to 21st September 2025,

the sacred occasion of Mahalaya Amavasya marks the grand culmination of Pitru Paksha at the holy hill of Arunachala, Tiruvannamalai. and Rameswaram

This day is dedicated to honoring our ancestors (Pitru Devatas), performing Pitru Puja, and Annadhaan. Tharpanam - Tila Homam

As narrated in the scriptures, when Karna, the great Mahabharata warrior, reached the higher worlds, he was offered only jewels instead of food. Surprised, he asked Yama Deva why. The Lord revealed that Karna had given charity of gold, wealth, and land, but never food to the needy in the name of his ancestors. To remedy this, Karna was sent back to Earth to perform Annadhaan for souls and the poor during Pitru Paksha. From then on, offering food to the hungry became the highest dharma on Mahalaya Amavasya.

At 63 Nayanars Gurupeetam, Tiruvannamalai, devotees will gather to perform Pitru Puja, Pitru Shanti Puja, and grand Annadhaan to sadhus, pilgrims, and the poor. By this noble seva, families receive blessings of peace, prosperity, health, relief from Pitru Dosha, and spiritual upliftment.

Participating in Mahalaya Amavasya at Arunachala is considered extremely meritorious, as the divine hill is itself a form of Lord Shiva, who grants Moksha to the departed souls.

Offer your heartfelt prayers, pujas, and Annadhaan on this sacred day, and let your ancestors shower you with blessings across generations.
